WTF IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?????

:evil: :evil: :evil: My vacuum manifold came in yesterday, i did i real quick install (not permanent) along with my vac/boost gauge, everything was fine. Afterwards i routed the line and gauge inside the car, started it again to be sure a line wasn't kinked and it ran like sh*t. REAL bad misfire. I thought it was the spark plug wire that came apart when i pulled it off....i also thought it was the spark plug that was cracked. I replaced all the plugs and wires today.....nothing. The only good thing is i got rid of the misfire codes i had. Now i don't get any codes but it still runs like ass. Now here's the part that might give it away. On the exhaust manifold, number 6 cyl, i can see smoke coming from the flange. I get blue and white smoke out the exhaust. Head gasket? Low compression? I read it could be either. I burned through a quarter tank of gas in about 15 minutes worth of idling if that. UUUGGGHHHH!!!!

::edit::

no oil in the coolant, or coolant in oil. Nothing is unusual at all except for the smoke and misfire. I can't believe something like this can happen that fast. I swear it was no more than 10 minutes between the time i shut it down and it was fine, till it was running all f*cked up

What is the vac gauge reading while idle? You've prob. already done this multiple times, but it wouldn't hurt to look again for any vacuum leaks, esp since you replaced the manifold.

manifold

Postby NRDriver » Wed Jul 22, 2009 4:21 pm

was it a cheap a$$ manifold. the only reason i ask is because i wonder if it had a residue or lining in it that got sucked into your engine. i have seen this happen for real. take it off and rev the crap out of it. also, has it been 3 key cycles since you cleared the codes. it may just take longer for the CEL to come on this time.

not a regular manifold ... a vacuum manifold I was going to need multiple vacuum/boost sources once the turbo goes on. So anyways, i had my car towed to the same place that did my timing belt, explained everything in detail. The owner said they'd try to look at it tomorrow, but most likely get to it on friday. He said the first thing they'll do is a compression check.

GzNutz, off the top of my head, i want to say i was about 20 in hg when idling, then when it started acting weird it was around 10ish... to 12, i think....

NRDriver, i cleared the codes an went through like 10 key cycles and the CEL never came back[/url]

sssssssssooooooooooooooooooooo.............i got a call today. You're not going to believe this. Here goes...for those who don't know, i have a remote starter (it was in there when i bought the car) and it requires a signal from an injector (or some other place i can't remember) So when it was installed, they tapped the number 6 injector. No big deal. They ran the wire through the firewall...also no big deal. What they didn't do was put a grommet in the firewall. So when i ran the nylon tubing through it for the gauge, it grounded. He explained the fuel system to me, saying that the injectors fire sequentially and requires voltage from each other, so when one is off, they all are. They took off the wire that was tapped into the injector and it ran fine, but was still smoking out the exhaust. Well that turned out to be unburned fuel. He said it had to be at least a gallon in the exhaust because it took about 30 minutes to clear up. They test drove it twice, once last night and once today and it runs like a champ. I'm do relieved. He said compression was good across all cylinders. He just made a note that i may need an o2 sensor or cat soon. Other than that, everything is well...well except for the fact that i knew it was going to be a lot of labor....so i'm about give away $418
