Changing brake shoes

Changing brake shoes

Postby mazen222 » Sun Jun 21, 2009 8:41 am

My E-brake is more than dead now... its even making a scratching noise when the car is rolling.

I'm buying the shoe "pads" online and i would like to replace them myself. Is there a tutorial out there that can help me out?

I would also want to know how to tighten the brake lines... i heat its under the brake handle.

Thanks for any tips,
Mazen

Here are a couple of links that should help. The first is for the E-brake only and the second is the maint manual for the Gen 2 Solara that has been floating around for some time. The E-brake section is part of the manual.

Hope this helps.

To adjust your ebrake.

Turn off ebrake. There's a hole in your rotor, rotate it to 6 o clock and you'll see the star. Using a flat head, turn the star upwards until you can't spin the rotor anymore. Then BACK OFF 8 notches (meaning turning the start downward 8 notches). Do this to both side. You might here some noise for a bit when you drive off but this is normal for the shoe to wear down a bit.
