yeah, serpentine belt

i believe that there's an aerosol you can buy which may help with that.

but i foget what it's called tho.

if you can't find the aerosol, then maybe change the belt and see if that helps.

STP BELT DRESSING.

It improves GRIP so the belt doesn't SLIP during start-up, etc...

WORN belts will cause this OR you may have a power steering pump bearing going out... etc... or a PULLEY bearing that is worn... etc...

Also noticed there is LOTS of info on this all over the net...

thanks crisp, i knew it was something by STP, i just didn't know the specific name.

there you go: try the spray first because it's cheapest. then maybe try oiling up your bearings.

I would avoid the belt dressing or at the very least use it sparingly! That stuff will make a real mess when it flings off the belt and pulleys and I haven't found that it helped out all that much.

I'm trying not to sound like a prude when I tell you to just replace the belt and be done with it. If you need to, pay someone else to do it.

The power steering bearing failure is possible but unlikely, IMO. You would notice other noise besides just at startup. The pump is generally considered a non-serviceable item and therefore cannot be oiled; only replaced. Start with the serp. belt as PS pumps are pretty long-lived components.

- DITTO on the "messy" comment

- NO on the WD40 comment (Not the same, IMHO.)

LUBE the pulleys, idler, etc... (many components on many cars are "non-serviceable", as mentioned before...)

...and ADD FRICTION to the belts...

STP belt dressing. It's NOT a lubricant in that way... rather, it restores some FRICTION which is often lost on worn belts, especially "V" belts with really worn teeth, and helps counteract the GLAZING that often occurs causing SLIPPAGE which is the source of BELT SQUEAK. (In my experience.) Now then, there ARE many other sources of SQUEAK...

Sometimes, just increasing the tension to specs. will stop the squeak... but often not for long if the cause is wear.

Are you sure it is not the cat from the neighbors?

Don't use oil etc.. it maybe will work for some hours...but the it will be back.

The only thing you can use is a candle.
Start you engine and hold the candle against the edges of the belt.

The wax of the candle will "grease" the belt.

Good luck.
