CEL on, P0500...

Hi,

As I was starting to brake to come off the freeway, I noticed my CEL light came on, and then the speedo went to "0" then a second later speedo went back to 45 mph as I was still braking and slowing down. About 8 months ago while I was accelerating onto the freeway, then trans jerked, car stopped accelerating and speedo went top "0" as well, then a second later went to normal speed and the car has been fine since untill this morning.

I know that P0500 could be anything from open or short circuit, bad sensor itself, cluster or ecu problem. Has anyone else had this happen before and what was the outcome. I think I'll start by checking power & ground to the sensor, check the wiring and then replace the sensor itself. But were is the speed sensor located on 1MZ auto? Thanks for any info.

P0500 – Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
· Open or short in speed sensor circuit
· Vehicle speed sensor malfunction
· Instrument cluster malfunction
· PCM malfunction

but i think u mentioned that in ur "end" of the post....i doubt this could be from a bad sensor....

in the Haynes manual it says "The vehicle speed sensor and speedometer driven gear housing is located on the differential (rear) part of the transaxle housing.

not 100% on this without looking myself but just like dawg said its located on the rear of the trans housing. you should be able to see it from above, look for some wires and a plug on the top backside of the trans. its usually around there somewhere.

^^^^
Thanks for the info guys, I'm just hoping for maybe a frayed wire or the sensor, don't even want to really think what the PCM would cost.
Any additional input greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

yup- just follow your wiring harness and you'll see it on the top of the rear part of your differential- it shouldn't be too hard to get to...

now....getting it out....that may be a different story...
