Can someone help me run a VIN check?

I'm going to buy a 2000 Toyota Solara SLE from a friend of a friend. He said he had an accident before at driver door and the car has been repainted the hood and rear bumper. It appears on paper that the car has been rebuilt and it has salvage title. I have two day to run test the car before I pay him.
So I would like to know exactly what happened with the car. All history and any lien on it. He offers me $4k for the car, is it worth?
