dynamatted the enitre floor about a month or so ago. had to move the shifter assembly to one side to easily dynamat under it. afterward the transmission sounded louder when accelerating in any gear. now it pops out of second gear. goes in fine, but pops out. all other gears go in and out normally. transmission shop claims there is an internal problem with the trannny @ a costs of roughly 1600.00. does anyone have any information one way or another about this. thanks...

i just replaced my tranny on my 93 camry 4cyl yesterday myself, the symptom was groaning noise when in gear, started from 4th and 5th gear, then a week later, the 3rd gear also making noise. the engine is free of abnormal noise while reving to 3 or 4k rpm, and 1st gear 2nd gear was fine.

here is what i learn,
if the car won't start, or car shakes during acceleration, tranny slips, or pop out of gear, then it is the clutch.

if the tranny making weird noise, then it could be gear oil low, damage gear, damage bearing.

a week ago i changed my clutch, the tranny was still making noise, and the gear oil was a little dark, yesterday, i drained gear oil, it was dark, after i done the tranny swap, and filled with new redline synthetic mt/90, now my car is back to normal.

did you put the shifter back exactly where it was before? (not that you had much choice of course, since the bolt holes are there) but thought I'd ask just in case...

otherwise, it has nothing to do with your dynamatting and it's most likely your clutch

i put it back in the same spot, but i think i may have stretched one of the cables out of adjustment when i pulled the assembly to one side. could this cause an internal problem?
