Stock brake calipers .. hate them?!

Stock brake calipers .. hate them?!

Postby ottawa » Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:30 pm

Greetings to all Solaraguy guys,

I have gen 1, 1999 V6 Solara..
I hate the stock calipers for the Solara, they tend to rust very easy.. Nobody likes that!

I know most people do the caliper paint job, that's the trend these days.. At the same time, when I look at different cars on the street, I see many quality calipers on the road which don't seem to get rusty, they are mostly for more expensive cars (bmw, audi, acura, some nissan's, ..)

I tried to search (long hours) for some quality brake calipers on the internet, and all I was able to find is racing level ones, which don't fit my car without some modification.

My questions:
*) Is there any quality calipers on the market that fit my car?!

**) If there is none and I had to paint them, is it possible to do it myself?! is there any instruction on how to powdercoat them myself ?! What is a good paint material brand?!

Thanks,

The new avalon calipers from what I heard are pretty sweet. But I dont htink it'd fit.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

You can paint them yourself, but not powdercoat them unless you have an electromagnetic paint booth.

I've never seen a pair of quality brake calipers besides the more expensive one's which are over 1k. (stoptech/rotora, i.e.)

powdercoating involves a machine that discharges 90,000 volts....

There's got to be another car out there that's just plug and play...

I almost refuse to believe that Toyota and Lexus make no other caliper that will fit onto the Solara/Camry platform and has better stopping power.

I miss Astro's car...

But those were just the rotors from a supra, there's a caliper relocation kit (for stock calipers) to be moved outward in order to accommodate the supra rotors.

ok..

It seems that some of you have already gone the Supra path..

Which Supra rotor/caliper year is the right fit for Solara 99?!
What is the mod required to make them fit in Solara?!

Did any one try NHT calipers (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?N=9178+11796+1725+4294967264+11920)

How about caliper covers as last option (http://www.calipercover.net)?!

Thanks..

Just upgrade to either Rotora or K-Sport Big Brake Kits! Pricey but well worth it! Try Brembo, Stop Tech or Willwood too.

If you have a spare 3 to 4k. I'd rather spend that on making it go faster.

If you want to make it faster then I suggest you invest it on a real sport cars...no sense dumping all that money on a 2 door camry!
