FAILED-Smog Check

Postby vairdasol » Sat Jun 07, 2008 10:28 am

Yep. I failed. NO (PPM) I went over by almost 600 in both the 15 and 25 mph categories.

As far as tune ups: oil change is recent, sparks probably have 40k on them (2x platinum), fuel filter is relatively new, throttle body cleaning never done. I do not have a check engine light on. Guy said its most likely the Cata. Conv. (even though my car runs smooth and makes no odd sounds) or the EGR Tube he didnt sound too sure.

His exact words were.."Damn I have never seen a Toyota fail." So my solara brothers and sisters....what the hell should I do?

BTW im not modded (engine-wise).

About 10-12 minutes and the car was ran somewhat aggressively (some ahole was tailing me). Then I turned it off for about 5-10 minutes (waiting for someone to finish) then he tested it right away. Do you think this affected it?

possibly. try it again... run the car... like go to the 605 and back, leave the car running, then have it smogged.

maybe try adding fuel injector cleaner too.

Sadly 100%. My girlfriend's sluggish 96 Mustang passed no problem, but the main guy asked her to turn on her car and leave it running 15 minutes (on top of the 40 miles we drove prior to). Now the new guy at the shop didnt ask that from me. I did call the main mech. and he said he would give me two free retests. I am concerned now whether or not I am considered a gross poluter and would have to test every year now.

Well just an update, I passed with flying colors. Thanks Mole for all your advice. I warmed up the engine real good and it worked. Also, I changed the oil and air filter.
