Recently,i got a starting problem for my 99 solara.

I called the dealer about the alarm system and the master key and spare question.
They said the OEM alarm system won't effect the starting problem.I don't trust what they said,i went to the shop and hand the key to the manager to start it ...Finally the engine is running the problem is the key CRAZY....

it's like 100 bucks or so I believe..
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

Yep, it was about $100 for me. I tried to program in myself for my 2006 lara, but could not get it to work at all. It was about $45 for a cut key and another 45 to program it, plus tax.

LOL a copy of the key is NOT 100 bux...

MAYBE if u have no key at all and they have to make one based on ur vin/ecu...then maybe, but if u have a copy urself...the answer is no, it shouldnt cost u 100 bux.

u have two options, ive tried the easier option and it has worked for me.

option 1) buy a key from the dealership (30 bux) and have them program it (u can find the instructions on here or they can program it in ur car in about 5 mins)

option 2) buy the key from ebay (just search toyota solara transponder key) and take it to a dealer and tell them u want it programmed... they will charge u maybe 10 bux to program it. (ive dont it myself TWICE @ the dealer so dont say no its not possible)

I did the second option when i had my Clifford alarm system installed and they needed a transponder for the alarm. Since the key was cheap on ebay i baught two (one to keep as a spare)
I took both keys to the dealership and had them program it in my car using my master key as the key to program off of.
