It comes down to driving habits (coasting to a stop, not giving into the temptation of burning everyone off the line) and diligent maintenance.

Sorry for me reviving this thread, so, how do you guys drive?
For example, I try my best to rev to around 2k to 2.3k before it changes gear. (I'm really restraining myself already for I have an automatic), and the best I could achieve is around 20mpg, mixed in town and freeway (around 50/50).
