Trunk Storage Unit / Organizer

Trunk Storage Unit / Organizer

Postby TRAFFICBLOWS » Tue May 13, 2008 7:54 pm

I need a storage unit and organizer for the trunk to hold all my car crap: jumper cables, cleaning items, OBDII scanner, oil, etc., AND not have it slide all around when driving.

Any ideas for the best solution??

Currently I use a Tupperware container and it just bounces all over and opens and empties... I've just reached the last straw cleaning it up constantly.

Check out the dealership. They usually have all sorts of storage stuff in their accessory catalog.

my mom had this bag looking thing with velcro on the bottom
she used to keep it in the trunk of the highlander
the velcro prevents the bag from sliding on the carpet

i use one of those plastic milk crates. the kind you can get at The Container Store, that are stackable.

they have a fairly large area for the base, so it doesn't tip over. i don't know exactly about how much it slides. i have it on my passenger side of the trunk, next to my subwoofer box. it doesn't slide sideways because of the close proximity to the sub's.

it's big enough to hold my electric tire inflator, my atlas, my first aide kit, my lug wrench, some towels (cloth and paper, both), and my basketball on the top (without falling out/rolling around the trunk).

i highly recommend it, as i don't have any velcro or anything to hold it down, and it seems to stay in place.

if you have sub's then it's definitely a solid holder of stuff, since the speakerbox will prevent excessive sliding.

only downside is that the sides are not solid (they have the traditional holes of a milk crate), but if you pack carefully, or line the inside of the milk crate with some plastic or cardboard, then stuff won't fall out the sides.

big pic, i know, but i'm lazy and just grabbed the first thing on google images to give an idea

on the cargo tote, it appears there are gray plastic blocks holding the tote... is that correct?? do they attach to the trunk liner or just attached to the tote?

thanks to everyone for the ideas so far!

I also found some organizers at http://www.trunkorganizer.com

yeah bro those do work well- awesome for dry stuff. i had them in my old ride... that is until my bottle of liquid wax somehow busted and leaked all over the trunk! so pissed :x

I hate excess crap in my car. All I have is an extra S/C belt.

My buddy has one of the toyota cargo totes and it works well.
