Getting windows retinted

Getting windows retinted

Postby vSolara » Wed Apr 09, 2008 5:30 pm

Hello! I have a car I bought from Indiana and the tint isnt legal here in Ohio. So, I'd like to take it somewhere to get the tint changed. I would like to get all of the windows retinted to the same shade. My question is: is it going to be a problem with the defroster/radio antenna? Do the shops have a special way to get the tint off without ruining them? I just dont want to have a broken radio in my car, lol.

Thanks for the ideas.

a shop is trained to do that, you should have no problem as long as you bring it to a reputable shop that knows what they are doing.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

yes, some shops, especially when dealing with defogger lines use a special chemical to remove the glue from the tint. normal windows you can just use soap, water and a razor blade

You guys probably won't believe me with this, but the Clorox wipes worked for me. I had some residue left over from when the dealership took off the tint, then I thought "screw it" and just wiped with the clorox wipes (the turqoise colored container) and the glue just came off after some rubbing.

Keep in mind that there was only SOME residue leftover from the tint being removed, about the size of a dime. So do it at your own risk...

Outside of that, I also suggest for you to take it to the pros. I hate messing with tint. It's such a hassle.

I used to details cars back in high school and when we sold used cars we took the tint out. All we ever did was use a razor blade and some glass cleaner to get the glue off. You would just have to jump over the defroster lines so you don't damage them. It peels right off. We used to have contests to see who could pull out the biggest piece!
