02 Sensor Rewire?

02 Sensor Rewire?

Postby unbalancedwood » Mon Dec 10, 2007 8:55 pm

So dont ask me how it happened, but all i know is about two years ago i had a problem with the rear 02 sensor and got it replaced. Worked fine till this summer, code came back. So didnt do anything about it till two weeks ago when i had time to look at it.

Got back there and saw what appeared to be singed wires, from heat apparently. This is what i saw...

So i cleaned the wires off, and soldered some wire to them to see if i still needed an 02 sensor or not. Light came back on along the way from home to school. So i think i need another 02 sensor. But its really tight back there and i dont have much wire at all to work with. I was wondering if there is a way i can find the 02 sensor wire back at the ecu or somewhere i can wire some longer wire, wrap in some heat resistant tubing or hose and fix it all...? Someone with a haynes manual wanna send me a PM...

:o Wow what happenned there?

I think the better would be to put mouse trap there :D

Rewire it and see what,s going on.. solder and heat shrink all the wire separatly, to don't get moisture.

Holy crap, it looks like something chewed it. EEK!

I'll haver to agree with the person above though. Since all that looks to still be attached is the white wire from the car side of the plug, I would say to cut that, and then just solder in a couple inches of wire on each of the 4 wires, and heat shrink it as DrLove said. It's hard to tell in the picture, but the plug should be clipped into a metal brakcet on the engine to stip it from moving.

As for the O2 sensor, I'd say to complely remove it and do the same thing to that. IT;s worth a try as the sensors are not cheap.

I would avoid playing with the wires at the ECU if at all possible.

If for some reason you really do have a bigger issue, I know a good shop in Richmond, VA if you are near there. One of only 3 or 4 shops in the US I give my approval too.
