Gas Mileage Problem

I have a 2000 Solara v6. During the past couple months I noticed that my gas mileage has been slowly decreasing. Just last year I remember being able to get about 330 to 350 miles before fill up. Now I'm only reaching about 280 miles on a tank! With the gas prices soaring I'm really eager to find a solution to the problem.

Here are some of the work that's been recently done on it. Replaced all 4 tires with the exact size but different brand from stock. Also using high mileage synthetic oil for the first time in the car... I think I'm around 120k miles...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! My friends are telling me just to get a tune up but I think there may be more I can do.

tune up sounds ideal... moreso your best bet.

Funny you mention mileage. I was using premium, because I felt a difference in the way the engine responded, and when I started I as getting about 2-3 more MPG.

Well, it's just getting too expensive, so I switched back to 89 octane last fill up, and I'm averaging 2 MPG more than before. Now, this is with the computer, so I know it's off, but the increase is calculated the same way it did when premium was in the tank.

I think Mole is right, though. At 120K, you probably need a tune up.

I tried 89 octane on my car too, it was about 280-300.
Mine is 40k and I just got a tuneup...
I was running at 300-350 when I was using 91...

I think I will stick with 91 because I get better mileage, and I really feel my engine run smoother.

Does the V6 99 Solara needs the suprem gaz?
I dont know how you call it in US.. but here in Canada it's like ... Bronze,silver and gold.. the octane is higher with gold of course...

so Toyota wants that we put "bronze" or it needs better octane?

My car too doesn't make lots of milage.. this car is expensive on gaz.. Im kind of piss of to always put $70 on the tank. hehe. But I still love the car.

Shell exemple:

Shell V-Power : 91
Shell Argent : 89
Shell Bronze : 87

I always put "bronze"...
