Headlight Bulb Removal?

Headlight Bulb Removal?

Postby StreamlineSolara » Mon Oct 01, 2007 1:22 pm

Hey, this is probably a stupid question, but how do you take the H4 bulbs out of the headlights? I un-plugged the connector and tried to pull and twist it out but it wouldn't budge at all, I was wondering if someone could just help me out with this real quick, thanks!

Twist then pull?

I believe it's turned CCW to take off.

WRONG !!! :) our bulbs have the metal clip holding it in .. you have to push down on the clip thingy .. then it bends out of the way .. allowing the bulb to come out.. when i changed it the first time it was difficult this was years agoe... but you should be fine

Thanks, I'll go and try it, do you know of any online DIY's that show pictures for doing this too? I didn't see any clip earlier, just a rubber thing around the bulb, but I'll go look for one.

Sorry, forgot to mention I have a 2000 Solara, we use the H4 bulbs, they didn't change to the 9006 until the 01+ solaras. I actually made that mistake the first time I bought 9006 bulbs, but I just went and put those in my foglights.

Nah, I saw the H4 part, I just thought it would be the same procedure for removal.

The rubber boot comes right off, it has two tabs on the sides that u can pull on to take the boot off, then the clip should be visible.

Yup... The clip is kind of the same consistency of a paper clip; look or feel around for a slightly looped end, push it towards the car and to the side until it disengages and pull the bulb straight out. HINT: It is a bit easier to pull out the wiring while the bulb is in place and your hands immediately around the prongs.
