Well, you could use toilet paper, perhaps a baby wipe... but I don't think your cat is gonna like it very much.

That could be other things... Unless you've been buying mom-and-pop gas and the car burnt oil or ran ridiculously rich, a catalytic converter is designed to friggin' last (especially on Toyotas where they're more generously spread in the manifold)... Rightly so when it's usually platinum-coated inside! Also, when was your last smog check? If it failed, then there's SOME merit, but it's usually regarded as a worst-case scenario.

You have a legitimate EGR problem

Postby SirTrixMagoo » Sun Sep 02, 2007 7:55 pm

the power issues you mentioned are textbook symptoms of an EGR fault. get that fixed and everything will go back to normal. you can try replacing the egr valve yourself, and that will most likely take care of the cel, but if you've been having an issue, most likely the passageways are clogged with carbon buildup and will need to be cleaned out. cleaning the EGR passageways is a bit more complicated than a simple valve r&r. I would recommend a dealer repair or equivalent (someone who knows where to look for excessive deposit buildup.)
